Screening estimate
BMI Calculator
Calculate body mass index, then read the result as a limited screening measure—not a verdict on health or fitness.
Interpret the estimate
How to use this result responsibly
BMI divides weight in kilograms by height in metres squared. It is a population screening measure, not a direct measurement of body fat, fitness, muscle, diet quality, or individual disease risk.
Worked example
A person who weighs 70 kg and is 1.70 m tall has an estimated BMI of 24.2. The number still cannot explain body composition, fat distribution, health history, or whether a change is appropriate.
Important limitations
- Adult category cut-offs are not designed for children or pregnancy.
- Muscularity, age, ethnicity, disability, and fluid status can affect interpretation.
- A single number should not trigger unsupervised restriction or diagnosis.
